What does the health check test for?

Through an in-depth history of your systems and symptoms with our GP, our Well Men Health Check screens for the following:

  • Cardiovascular Problems
    Your blood pressure, pulse and heart will be checked and along with blood test results screen for any cardiovascular problems.
  • Respiratory Problems
    Your lungs and oxygen levels will be checked for any respiratory problems.
  • Gastrointestinal Problems
    Your abdomen will be examined to ensure no gastrointestinal abnormalities.
  • Thyroid Problems
    A thyroid check and blood test will identify if you have any thyroid issues.
  • Liver & Kidney Check
    Your liver and kidney function will be assessed and signs of disease detected.
  • Vitamin D And Iron Check
    Your Vitamin D and iron levels will be checked to identify any concerns.
  • Diabetes Check
    You will be checked for early signs of diabetes and advised on nutrition and lifestyle changes if required.
  • Bone Health Check
    Your calcium levels will be tested to analyse the health of your bones.
  • Testosterone Check
    Your testosterone levels will be checked to ensure these are in the optimum range.
  • Prostate Cancer Check
    Your prostate cancer risk can be assessed via history, examination and a PSA blood test.
  • Inflammatory Markers Check
    Inflammatory markers will be checked to see if you have raised levels of inflammation.

    Your BMI will be assessed to identify any problems with your weight.

Blood and urine tests

  • Full blood count
    Gives a good indication of your overall bone marrow function and general health. Can detect signs of inflammation or infection, iron or B12 concerns, anaemia and clotting disorders.
  • Urea and electrolytes
    This tests how well the kidneys are filtering the blood plus the overall balance of electrolytes and minerals in the body.
  • Liver function
    Checks how well the liver is functioning and tells us whether there is any inflammation or damage to the inside of the liver.
  • HbA1c and glucose
    To check for diabetes.
  • ESR
    Checks for inflammation or infection in your body.
  • Thyroid function tests
    Checks for thyroid disorders including underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) and overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism).
  • Testosterone
    Checks for low or high testosterone levels in the blood.
  • Lipid profile
    Checks for cholesterol levels which could indicate higher risk of heart disease, stroke and dementia.
  • Calcium
    Important for healthy bones and teeth. Calcium helps your nerves, muscles and heart function properly.
  • Uric acid
    Checks for gout and kidney stones.
  • Iron
    Checks for conditions like anaemia and iron overload.
  • Ferritin
    Checks for iron-deficiency and therefore anaemia, inflammatory conditions or liver disease.

  • Urinalysis

    We screen for bowel cancer with this stool test that detects any hidden blood in your stool.
