Driver medicals can be completed by any one of our GPs, and Dr Fiona Graham, one of our partners, has a specialist interest in this area.
If you drive a lorry, bus or coach, you need a DVLA D4 medical. See our HGV, LGV and PCV driver medicals page. If you drive a taxi or private hire vehicle, you need a different medical on your licensing council's own form. See our taxi and private hire medicals page.
Both use the same DVLA Group 2 clinical standard, so the examination itself feels very similar. The difference is the paperwork and who decides. An HGV or bus medical goes on the DVLA's D4 form and goes to the DVLA. A taxi medical is recorded on your licensing council's own form and goes to the council.
