Private GP care for cast and crew

Convenient GP care wherever the work takes you in the UK

We are Chelmsford Private GPs based in Essex, but that does not have to be where you are. If you have a smartphone, a tablet or a laptop, and you are physically in the UK at the time of your appointment, we can see you by video. If you can get to us, we would be glad to see you in the clinic in person.

Either way, you get the same thing. A thorough consultation with an experienced, friendly and empathetic GP. We are here to help.

Two ways to see us

I am not in Essex and need an online appointment

Speak to one of our GPs by video from wherever you are in the UK. No travelling, no waiting room.

I can get to your clinic for a face to face appointment

Come and see us at Phoenix Hospital in Great Baddow, Chelmsford, with tests and imaging available on site.

We know your week does not look like most people's

If you are on tour, you might be in a different city every week, registered with an NHS GP a few hundred miles from wherever you are sleeping tonight. Getting an appointment at home is difficult enough.

We work around that. We hold appointments early in the morning, in the evening and on Saturdays, and a video consultation can happen wherever you can find somewhere quiet and private to speak.

And because so much of this work is freelance, we understand what is really at stake when something goes wrong. There is no sick pay, and a week off is a week unpaid. Getting a straight answer quickly matters more here than it does for most people.

What you can talk to us about

We cover anything you would normally take to your NHS GP, including:

  • Coughs, colds, chest infections, sore throats, hoarseness and anything else affecting your voice
  • Aches, strains and injuries from lifting, rigging, dancing, long drives between venues or long days on your feet
  • Mental health, including anxiety, low mood, stress and sleep
  • Women's health, including contraception, perimenopause and menopause
  • Men's health
  • Sexual health
  • Skin problems, including reactions to make-up, adhesives and costume materials
  • Repeat medication and prescriptions while you are away from home
  • MED3 sick notes, provided within the consultation at no extra charge where appropriate
  • Referrals to specialists, and second opinions

If something needs a physical examination, blood tests or a scan, we will say so and help you work out the quickest way to get it.

How a video consultation works

Before your appointment we will email you a link to join. You will need:

  • A smartphone, tablet or computer with a working camera and microphone
  • A reliable internet connection
  • A quiet, private place where you can speak comfortably with the GP
  • To be physically located in the UK at the time of your consultation
  • Photographic ID to confirm your identity

Appointments are for anyone aged 18 or over. If you are booking for a child under 18, you must be their parent or legal guardian, and photographic ID will be needed for the child as well.

You will speak directly with one of our GPs, who will look at your symptoms, talk through your concerns and advise you on the most appropriate treatment or next steps.

Please note: you must be physically in the UK at the time of your consultation.

The GPs you will be speaking to

Dr Yenushka Abeyratna, GP at Chelmsford Private GPs
Dr Alev Onen, GP at Chelmsford Private GPs
Dr Fiona Graham, GP at Chelmsford Private GPs

There are three of us, and we own and run the clinic ourselves.

Dr Yenushka Abeyratna (BSc Hons MBChB MRCGP) qualified as a GP in 2016 and has a particular interest in mental health, perimenopause and menopause, sexual health and gynaecological problems.

Dr Alev Onen (MBChB Hons MRCP MRCGP) worked as a hospital medic before moving into general practice, and has a particular interest in mental health, men's health and lifestyle medicine.

Dr Fiona Graham (BSc Hons MBBS MRCGP) has worked in Mid Essex since qualifying in 2016, with a particular interest in women's health, mental health, steroid injections and occupational medicine.

We are not a big corporate healthcare provider. This is our clinic, and every person who books with us matters to us.
