Let’s Talk About Mental Health

May 12, 2025

Just those two words ‘Let’s talk’ could be the first step someone suffering with mental health needs to hear.

Mental health issues can be complex and deeply personal. Trying to access the right kind of support with someone who can truly understand your healthcare needs can be overwhelming and truly daunting.

At Chelmsford Private GPs we play a significant role in supporting patients with their mental health. We are often the first point of contact for individuals seeking help. We take great pride in being able to offer all of our patients the time and space to truly understand their healthcare needs.

We assist and empower our patients to manage their mental health by diagnosing the underlying disorder, formulating a treatment plan and making onward referrals, if required, together with
encouraging self-care practices that individuals can adopt where appropriate.

Support can be offered in a variety of forms, from urgent, same day consultations to routine appointments to support patients through their mental health journey, We often get asked about self-care practices, and what advice we can offer.

Below are our top 5 recommendations to improve and protect your mental health:

  • Get physical – yes, regular physical activity is great for the mind, and even better if you enjoy it. But if you’re not one for gym memberships and 5am run clubs, a simple walk can be just as good. Don’t forget the power of a good quality night’s sleep and minimising toxic substances like alcohol, drugs and tobacco can also help to improve your mental health.
  • Let’s breathe – From downward dogs to cobra poses, practising some relaxation techniques like yoga or meditation can really help focus your mind. These simple activities can be done almost anywhere at a time that suits you.
  • Build your inner circle - Make sure you build supportive relationships with friends and family to communicate how you feel, and feel confident you can share any concerns you might have.
  • It’s okay to say no – set boundaries and manage time to minimise excessive commitments, allowing you time to rest when needed.
  • Talk, help is out there – There really are people out there to support you. Recognising your own signs of distress and taking the earliest opportunity to access professional help is really important.

At Chelmsford Private GPs we are that professional help. We provide compassionate and comprehensive care for all our patients. We empower our patients to lead fulfilling and balanced lives, helping them navigate the challenges of mental health, ensuring we work collaboratively towards sustainable wellbeing.
