Prostate Cancer Awareness Month: Know the Signs

March 5, 2026

March is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, helping raise awareness of one of the most common cancers affecting men. Early detection can make a significant difference to treatment outcomes, which is why understanding the symptoms — and knowing when to seek medical advice — is so important.

At Chelmsford Private GPs, we support men through every stage of their health journey, including prostate health, through our dedicated men’s health services.

Symptoms to Look Out For

In its early stages, prostate cancer may not cause symptoms. As it develops, some people may notice:

  • Needing to urinate more often, especially at night
  • Difficulty starting urination
  • Weak or slow urine flow
  • Feeling like your bladder hasn’t fully emptied
  • Blood in urine or semen
  • Discomfort or pain in the pelvic area

These symptoms don’t always mean prostate cancer — they can also be linked to common conditions like an enlarged prostate — but they should always be checked by a GP.

How Chelmsford Private GPs Can Help

Men’s Health Services
We offer private, confidential prostate health checks, including symptom assessment, PSA blood testing where appropriate, and onward referral to specialists or imaging if needed. Our focus is on early detection, reassurance, and fast access to further investigations when required.

We also support wider men’s health concerns, recognising that many symptoms can overlap with other conditions.

When to Book an Appointment

Consider booking if you notice changes in urination, blood in urine or semen, persistent pelvic discomfort, or if you have a family history of prostate cancer. Even without symptoms, you may wish to discuss screening if you are over 50 (or over 45 with higher risk factors).

We’re Here to Support Your Health

At Chelmsford Private GPs, we provide discreet, supportive care through our men’s health services. If you have concerns about prostate symptoms or want to discuss prostate screening, our team is here to help.
