At Chelmsford Private GPs, we are dedicated to your health and wellbeing through our general practice and also our Lifestyle Medicine service.

Lifestyle Medicine is an approach to medicine which is growing in popularity and more people are embracing this way of managing their health. It centres on six key pillars: ensuring quality sleep, nurturing your mental well-being, encouraging physical activity, promoting a healthy diet, fostering healthy relationships, and minimising harmful substances.

We understand that your health is influenced by various aspects of your lifestyle, and we work to guide you in making positive changes.

We believe in a holistic approach to healthcare, focusing on prevention and the treatment of lifestyle-related diseases wherever. Our team of GPs is here to support you in adopting healthier lifestyle choices, understanding that each person’s health journey is unique. By tailoring our services to your individual needs, we help you achieve a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Dr Alev Ӧnen is also currently understaking a diploma in Lifestyle Medicine and is here to take consultations with any patient interested in exploring this approach to their health.

The Six Pillars of Health

The programme is built on six pillars, each representing a vital aspect of health:

Sleep

Sleep is a cornerstone of good health, our programme emphasises its role in mood regulation, cognitive function, and physical health.

Mental Wellbeing

Mental health is integral to complete health and a key part of the Lifestyle Medicine approach. Strategies to reduce stress and improve mental health through natural means like exercise, social connections, and mindfulness are just some of the solutions and treatment options.

Physical Activity

Regular exercise is integral to the programme. This is not just for physical health but also for its mood-enhancing benefits, linked to your mental health.

Healthy Diet

Nutrition is key, and the programme advocates for a balanced diet to improve both physical and mental health. Patients can get support and guidance in making the right food and nutritional choices.

Healthy Relationships

Positive social connections are crucial for emotional support and overall wellbeing.

Minimising Harmful Substances

Reducing exposure to toxins and addictive substances is vital for both physical and mental health.

Tailoring Lifestyle Medicine to Individual Needs

We understand that each individual's health journey is unique. Our Lifestyle Medicine programme focuses on each patient's personal needs. We are dedicated to making health a more accessible and integrated part of life.

This approach represents a shift from traditional medicine's focus on disease treatment to a more proactive, preventive, and holistic approach. It's also about empowering individuals to take charge of their health through informed lifestyle choices. For some patients it can even lead to cutting back on medication and finding lifestyle choices which can be just as effective in managing a range of conditions.
