Getting to Know… Dr. Yenushka Abeyratna

December 12, 2025

Whether you need a one-off appointment to resolve a concern or are looking to form a long term relationship with us, it’s reassuring to know exactly who you’ll be seeing. At Chelmsford Private GPs, we make this simple by introducing our doctors in advance, so you feel confident before you even arrive.

We understand how important it is to build a meaningful relationship with your GP. That’s why we take the time to truly get to know our patients—treating each person as an individual. This personalised approach helps us create tailored treatment plans that genuinely work for you.

We also believe that feeling comfortable with your GP makes all the difference. Sometimes, that starts with knowing a little about us—who we are and how we work. Over the next few months, we’ll be introducing our team, one by one.

Over the past couple of months we have introduced Dr. Alev Onen and Dr. Fiona Graham. Next up, meet another of our founding GPs, Dr. Yenushka Abeyratna…

Meet Dr Yenushka Abeyratna
Mental Health | Chronic and acute medical problems | Perimenopause and menopause | Sexual and gynaecological health

Hello, I’m Dr Yenushka Abeyratna, and I’m one of the co-founders of Chelmsford Private GPs. I’m passionate about providing kind, compassionate, and person-centred care — the sort of care where you feel truly listened to, supported and understood. My patients often tell me that I’m approachable and always take the time to really listen. I believe that follow-up and aftercare are just as important as the initial consultation, and I take pride in ensuring that everyone feels well looked.

My Journey into Medicine

I initially gained a BSc (Hons) and then graduated from the University of Warwick Medical School in 2008. I later went on to achieve my MRCGP. I undertook some of my foundation training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London. During this time, I carried out research at the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Assisted Conception Unit, which sparked my ongoing interest in Women’s Health. I qualified as a GP in 2016 and since then, I’ve been privileged to care for patients across a wide range of medical areas.

My Clinical Interests

As a GP, I enjoy the variety that general practice brings — no two days are ever the same. I have a broad range of experience and can consult in all areas of medicine, but I have a particular interest in:

  • Mental health – helping patients manage anxiety, low mood and stress with empathy and understanding
  • Chronic and acute medical problems – supporting long-term health and continuity of care
  • Perimenopause and menopause – guiding women through hormonal changes with tailored, evidence-based advice and treatment
  • Sexual and gynaecological health – providing a safe, non-judgemental space for open discussion and care

My Approach to Care

I truly believe that good medicine starts with good listening. Every person’s story is unique, and I take time to understand each person’s lifestyle, concerns and goals before working together to create a plan that feels right for them. My aim is always to provide holistic care — not just treating symptoms, but supporting overall wellbeing and quality of life.

A Little About Me

Outside of work, I’m married with two children, and we love spending time outdoors — especially woodland walks, which helps me unwind and reconnect. I also enjoy the theatre, dining out and making the most of family time.

It’s a real privilege to be able to care for people and make a difference in their lives. I look forward to meeting you and supporting you on your own health journey.
